Hi-Def, Six-Player, 2D Castlevania Coming for XBLA?
Lending credence to this rumor is the fact that these details are coming from two separate sources. First, never know tech posted a report on Harmony of Despair (which has since been pulled, but can still be read on NeoGAF), stating it'll have a multiplayer mode allowing six people to play together at the same time. The game will still be in the "Metroidvania" style of all recent 2D Castlevania games, and the playable characters revealed so far will come from the last few Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS titles: Soma Cruz (Aira of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow), Alucard (Symphony of the Night, and also unlockable in Dawn of Sorrow), Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin (Portrait of Ruin), and Shanoa (Order of Ecclesia).
Weirdly, though (and somewhat disappointingly), the character sprites will evidently be the same as those used in the Nintendo DS games, with Harmony of Despair viewed with a "wide camera angle," letting players see more of their surrounding area than past 2D Castlevania games. On top of that, clicking the right analog stick also pops the view out to see the entire map, in lieu of the usual Castlevania map screen.
Last month, a Konami trademark filing for "Harmony of Despair" surfaced, suggesting a brand new 2D Castlevania game was about to get subtitled. Now new reports show there is indeed a new 2D Castlevania game in the works, but it'll be a lot more elaborate than most were expecting: Castlevania: Harmony of Despair will evidently be a 2D, hi-definition, six-player Castlevania game for Xbox Live Arcade.
